Unit - 4 Where are we place and time

Day:1 Provocation
11.11.19 (Monday)

In Unit class, learners did gallery walk in groups and observed different types
of land forms pictures. After that they wrote the names of different land forms
in worksheet. Then they wrote in the graphic organizer I see, I think, I wonder.

In language, they saw some phonics on board and they tried to pronounce

them. (like: ss  (class,pass) sh (fish, shrimp), ook (look, book),

ar (Jar, Car) etc). After that they tried to find out some words using

some of those phonics after a group discussion.

In Maths, they did worksheet on number pattern. 

Day:2 Prior knowledge 

12.11.19 (Tuesday)

In Unit class, learners  wrote features of different types of places on

earth through the carousel activity.

In language, learners got some phonics hints to make words individually.

Like: starts with: ss (shop, ship), ends up with: ee (bee, see) etc.

They did the work individually.

In Maths, learners got worksheet on all kinds of patterns and they

extended them.

Day:3 Unpacking the central idea 

13.11.19 (Wednesday)

In unit class, Learners individually wrote the central idea after the discussion

on the key words of the central idea.  

In language class, they knew about a new trick of learning phonics. It’s called

short spelled & long spelled strategy of learning phonics. Example: With short

e..spell, bell. with long e.. bee, tree. 


In Maths, there were different stations with different patterns. In group

they visited the stations and solve the patterns then they wrote


Day:4 PYP jargon  

14.11.19 (Thursday) 

In unit class, unit descriptor for this unit was discussed. They prepared the
PYP jargon (concepts, lines of inquiry, teacher questions, learner profile
attributes and attitudes) for the unit. 

In language class, they wrote words by the sound oy and ay and wrote fill in
the blanks using the sound br, cl. 

In Maths, they did repeating addition and multiplication from o-6, then in
group they did 2 times table.

Day:5 Questioning session
17.11.19 (Sunday)

In Unit class, learners did compass activity. (N – Need to know, E –
Excited about, W – Worried about, S – Suggestion for finding about.) They
discussed among groups and wrote some questions what you want to know
about the unit-4 (Where we are in  place and time). Then they wrote in the
NEWS individually.

In Language, they got cards on homophones, one per student. Then, they
roam around to find another learner holding the matching homophone. When
everyone has found a partner, each pair of students must be able to present their
homophones to the class discussed the words. After that they watched
videos on homophones.

In Maths, learners did repeated addition and multiplication of 2
times table individually.

Day:6 Questioning session
18.11.19 (Monday)

In Unit class, learners knew about different types of places on earth.
They watched a video on the seven continents  of the earth. Then they
did inquiry through a world map and listed down the names
of continents and Oceans names in a T chart.
In English, yesterday’s homophone cards presented. Learners found their
peer. Then in peer they wrote two sentences, one sentence for each
word, using it correctly.

In Maths, they did repeated addition of 2 and filled up the gaps with
correct answers. Then learners learnt 2’s times table from previous
page and told to the class.

Day:7 Study material and discussion
19.11.19 (Tuesday)

In UOI, learners got study material on different types of land forms (land
bodies) and their features. Then they watched a video on features of
different land forms.

In English, learners got advanced & differentiated worksheet on homophones.

In Maths, they wrote times table of 2 individually.

20.11.19 (Wednesday)

In UOI class, learners wrote the similarities and differences of plain/ plateau,
mountain/hill and desert/forest in groups. in a venn diagram.

In English, they did research on homophones today. They read story books
and found out words that have homophones and listed them.

In Maths, they got worksheet on 5's times table.  

21.11.19 (Thursday)
In UOI class, learners discussed among their group and wrote the differences
and similarities between different water bodies on Earth.

In English, Learners learnt about homophones.Then, they did worksheets on

In Maths, they got different number chit problems on 5's times table. They
wrote the answer next to the problems then they got worksheet on 5 times

24.11.19 (Sunday)

In UOI, learners observed a multimedia presentation and tick answer in the
answer script.

In English, they were provoked on learning adjectives related to the earth’s
physical system. They watched a video and shared their thoughts about it.
Then they wrote some sentences about the video like what have they seen
in this video using  adjectives.

In Maths, they did station activity in groups and solved problems 5's times

25.11.19 (Monday)

In UOI, Learners were taken an informal formative assessment.

In English, they described and wrote any 4 land forms using adjectives
and underline the adjectives in peer.

In Maths, learners got differentiated worksheet on times table of 10.

26.11.19 (Tuesday)

In UOI, learners knew about physical geography and it's components.

In English, they found out adjectives from story book and then discussed in
groups and wrote.

In Maths, they did word problems worksheet on times table of 10.

27.11.19 (Wednesday)

In UOI, learners watched a video on 5 themes of Bangladesh. Then, they
wrote about the video in the copy.

In English, in groups they picked a topic  continents/seasons/oceans/
mountains/volcano and described their specification using adjectives.

In Maths, learners made 2 word problems with multiplication and they solved
each other’s problems in pairs.

28.11.19 (Thursday)


01.12.19 (Sunday)

In UOI, Learners watched a video on drawing the map of Bangladesh. After
that they Wrote the division of Bangladesh in the map.

In English, they got worksheet on behavioral adjectives and solved it.

In Maths, they solved think tac toe with multiplication.

02.12.19 (Monday)
In UOI, learners drew the map of Bangladesh and wrote the divisions
on it individually.

In English, they were assessed through a formative assessment on
homophone and phonics.

In Maths, they made posters on multiplication word problems keywords
in groups.

03.12.19 (Tuesday)

In UOI, learners were provoked  by asking the reasons for settlements. Then,
in pairs they drew and wrote in which land form people live in and rationalize
why they live there.

In English, learners did pair assessment on reading.

In Maths, they were introduced to the standard unit to measure time.

04.12.19 (Wednesday)

In UOI, learners were self assessed through Tier approach on The Earth’s
physical geography.

In English, they watched a video on earth and find out the articles. After that,
they came one by one on the hot seat and said one word using appropriate

In Maths, they solved some problems on the standard unit of time in the copy.

05.12.19 (Thursday)

In UOI, learners were assessed through formative assessment. 

In English, they wrote 8-10 words related to physical geography using
article A, An, The.
In Maths, they were self assessed through approach. After that they sat in
groups and shared their knowledge on times tables and standard unit through
a fish bowl activity.

08.12.19 (Sunday)

In UOI, Learners started the LOI-2 today. They knew about the relationship
between location and settlement. Then they wrote which land form is
the best for living and why? and which land form is not suitable to live
and why? in the copy.

In English, they did Think-tac-toe on story writing.

In Maths, learners recalled all the standard unit of time. After that they
sat with their cycling partners and made quizzes on standard unit of time
then they exchanged the papers and solved the quiz made by their partners.

09.12.19 (Monday)

In UOI, Learners were assessed through an informal formative assessment
on LOI -1.

In English, they started the topic: Adjective and Article. They wrote 4
adjectives after  nouns and 4 articles before nouns.

In maths, they did supersleuth and fish bowl activity on standard unit of time.

10.12.19 (Tuesday)

In UOI, learners wrote by themselves on things required for settlement.

In English, they did individual work on articles.

In Maths, they were introduced with hour hand and minute hand of a clock.
They learned about how to read half an hour. After that they got differentiated

11.12.19 (Wednesday)

In UOI, learners did discussion and presentation in groups on which location
do you want to settle down in Bangladesh?

In English, they were assessed themselves through tiered approach on

and an empty clock.

12.12.19 (Thursday)

In UOI, learners did discussion on which location do you want to settle down

In UOI, learners were taken Formative assessment - 2. They explored the
world map and choose a location and listed down the things required
for settlement.

In UOI, Today the learners started LOI-3. In groups they wrote positive
and negative impact of human interaction  on the physical environment

18.12.19 (Wednesday)

In UOI, learners got the study materials. They read one by one. At last they
did fishbowl activity.

In English, they got 4 different pictures to describe.

In Maths, they took a pair assessment on time reading.

19.12.19 (Thursday)

In UOI, individually they wrote the way people change the land forms.  

In English, they made sentences with the given verbs.

In Maths, they were assessed through formative assessment on time reading. 

22.12.19 (Sunday)

In UOI, Learners wrote about pollution. They did a worksheet on it.

In English, they picture description in the copy.

In Maths, they did different worksheets on calendar in groups.

23.12.19 (Monday)

In UOI, Learners wrote steps to save the land forms. 

In English, they did picture description using given clues.

In Maths, they marked the question's answer in the given calendar.

24.12.19 (Tuesday)

In UOI, Learners did worksheet on pollution.

In English, they wrote picture description with the given clues.

In Maths, they got a calendar of December with some information given
there. They jotted down the information in their copy.

05.01.20 (Sunday)

In UOI, learners drew the picture where they want to settle down, the
features of that place, natural factors of that place and the reasons why
they choose the place for settlement. It was a group work.

In English, they wrote stories by themselves in the given worksheet.

In Maths, they made calendar of the month January, 2020 in groups. 

06.01.20 (Monday)

In UOI, learners took formative  assessment.

In English, they wrote stories in the given worksheet. 

In Maths, in group they prepared calendar of a month with the given clues. 

07.01.20 (Tuesday)

In UOI, learners revised the UOI copy and they organized their portfolio. 

In English, the beginning part of the story was given then learners completed
the story by themselves. 

In Maths, individually they prepared calendar of different months.  

08.01.20 (Wednesday)

In UOI, learners took summative assessment for the current unit.

In English, one learner wrote the beginning part of a story and then
exchanged it with their peers and then complete the rest of the story.
They took number chits to get their peer. 

In Maths, individually they wrote the reasons that why people use/need
calendar and the abbreviations for all the months.

09.01.20 (Thursday)

It was the end of this unit.  learners wrote their reflection about this unit. They also took profile assessment instead of English. 

In Maths, they took formative assessment on calendar.
